COMPARISONS

Purchase Price vs Total Cost of Ownership

Purchase price is the easiest number to compare, which is why it dominates equipment decisions. It is also the one number that says least about what a machine will cost you.

What the invoice leaves out

  • Operator hours over the machine's working life
  • Consumables: brushes, pads and squeegee blades
  • Scheduled maintenance and unplanned repairs
  • Battery replacement
  • Downtime and the cleaning that does not happen

Building a defensible comparison

Use your own utilisation figures, your own labour rates and quoted consumable and service costs. A comparison built from your numbers stands up in a procurement review; a generic industry claim does not.
