When a ride-on scrubber is the right machine

Ride-on machines suit floors where the operator can work long, uninterrupted runs. On open warehouse aisles, production floors and large car parks, coverage per hour and operator fatigue — not manoeuvrability — decide the outcome.

Where the floor is broken up by racking bays, doorways and fixtures, a smaller walk-behind machine often finishes the job the ride-on cannot reach.

Selecting a ride-on machine

• Total floor area and the cleaning window available
• Aisle width, turning space, ramps and door heights
• Surface condition — sealed concrete, coated floors or profiled surfaces
• Soil type and whether loose debris needs sweeping first
• Fill, dump, charging and storage arrangements
• Operator training, visibility and site traffic management

Scrub, sweep, or both?

Loose debris such as pallet timber, shrink wrap, swarf and grit is a sweeper's job. Ground-in traffic soil, spills and residue are a scrubber's job. Sites with both usually sweep first and scrub after, or use a machine configured for the dominant condition.

Whole-of-life cost

Over a working life, consumables, batteries, replacement parts, scheduled maintenance and downtime typically outweigh the purchase price. Serviceable construction and parts availability matter as much as the invoice.
