When a walk-behind scrubber is the right machine

Walk-behind scrubbers earn their place where access matters more than raw coverage: retail tenancies, supermarket aisles, hospital corridors, school halls, hospitality back-of-house, workshops and multi-level buildings where the machine has to share a lift.

They also make sense as a second machine on large sites, handling perimeters, docks, amenities and congested bays that a ride-on machine cannot enter cleanly.

• Whether the operator works around people, which favours quieter machines

Walk-behind or ride-on?

Ride-on machines suit large, continuous floors where long uninterrupted runs let coverage do the work. Walk-behinds suit congested, interrupted floors and tight access. Where a site has both conditions, a combination is usually more productive than forcing one machine to do everything.

Running costs and maintenance

Brushes, pads, squeegee blades, filters and batteries are the consumables that keep a scrubber productive. A short daily routine — drain and rinse tanks, clean filters, inspect blades, clear the brush deck — protects both the floor finish and the machine.
